Jamie O’Hara faced backlash over a controversial social media post about Matty Cash’s tackle on Bentancur, leading him to offer a clarification amid heated debate and criticism.
Spurs lost 2-1 at home to Villa on Sunday which was their third consecutive defeat in the league. Tottenham were unfortunate in front of the goal, missing several easy chances as well as having quite a few saved by Emiliano Martinez.
They took the lead through Giovani Lo Celso but Villa levelled late in the first half before scoring the winning later in the second half to win the game.
The home side lost Bentancur in the 23rd minute following a rash challenge from the Villa defender. And Ange was not happy with the tackle and criticised it after the game in his post match interview.
Former Spurs midfielder and talkSport pundit Jamie O’Hara also voiced his anger at the tackle with a rather controversial post on his social media.
He posted on X:
“2.5 months for Bentancur injury absolutely gutted he looked decent, Fuming about Cash next time we play Villa let’s make sure the boys remember.”
While he may have meant to take the anger and emotions from this game to the return fixture, the choice of words were poor with many condemning him for inciting violence against another professional player.
Gabriel Agbonlahor also came to Matty Cash’s defence claiming that bad tackles and injuries are part of the game.
He said (via Birmingham Mail):
“Bad tackles happen in football.”
“I’m sure Matty Cash has already got in contact with Bentancur! Let’s wish him a speedy recovery!”
O’Hara later had to post a clarification after receiving a lot of backlash from fans. He posted:
“Think your reading this wrong not saying injure him as if I’d ever want a pro to get injured, I’m saying make sure we are at it and get one back on them ie win the game and be on them, I’d never want a fellow pro to get injured.”

Tottenham’s next game is against defending champions Manchester City and given their current injury problems, it can easily result in another defeat for Spurs.
The winter transfer window can not come sooner for Ange who will hope that Levy and co back him with the necessary signings early on in January to save their season from completely derailing after such a strong start.
