According to Football Insider, sources have said that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on talented 21-year-old Southampton shot-stopper Gavin Bazunu.

The Saints, who sit fourth in the Championship this season, are looking to find their way back to the Premier League. Bazunu was one of the shining lights in what was a disappointing campaign for Southampton last time out and it appears he still has admirers in the top flight.

The 21-year-old has played 17 times for the Saints this season in the Championship, conceding 27 goals and keeping two clean sheets (Transfermarkt). Bazunu has also played 20 times for his national team.

This summer, Vicario joined Tottenham for a £17m fee from Empoli and has already proven to be a worthy successor to Hugo Lloris with his performances in the opening third of the season.

Fraser Forster proves to be an able deputy to the Italian, should he not be able to play. The Englishman is 35 years old though, and has a contract that expires at the end of the season (Transfermarkt).

Spurs regard Gavin Bazunu as a ‘top prospect’

According to the report by Football Insider, Spurs regard the Southampton goalie as a ‘top prospect’ and are keeping tabs on his situation with the Championship club.

The former Manchester City youngster is said to fit into the profile of signings Spurs are looking to make under Ange Postecoglou. His age and potential ceiling make him an exciting prospect.

Considering the fact that we have Vicario, I am not really sure signing Bazunu makes much sense. We would be wasting the 21-year-old’s talents by making him warm the bench. This move seems extremely unlikely at the moment.
